Letter from the President

Cris Sanchez It is a privilege to greet you all as the 5th President of this great association of like-minded professionals and dear colleagues, who day in and day out engage in the translation and interpreting profession maintaining a high standard of ethics while continually seeking opportunities for learning and improving their skills.

Together, we share the love for languages, the passion for communication and the need to educate and expand the awareness of those we come in contact with about the intricacies of our profession and the benefits of working with skillful, experienced, and competent interpreters and translators.

It has been a privilege and great experience to serve on the Board of Directors since 2013 as Director and as Vice President in 2014; collaborating with the best of the best in this profession. Now, it is my duty in following on the steps of four previous presidents, who have given their time and effort for the love of our profession, who always have striven to maintain the highest standard, so it is fitting to recognize and thank them.

I especially want to take the opportunity to thank our departing president Lorena Pike, who has worked tirelessly to promote NITA, to educate all who come in contact with interpreters or translators, to create partnerships with other professional organizations and government entities about our profession.

I also want to recognize and thank our parting Director Carmen L. Vega, who has been a wonderful asset and a great contributor to our Board of Directors.

It is also a great delight to welcome the new elected board members; our Vice President Maria Gomez De Peralta, Director Elena Gandía, and our continuing Board members: Secretary Araitz Ceberio, Directors Maria Davis and Ben Karl, Treasurer Janie O. Lopez. I am looking forward to working with this outstanding board of directors.

I don’t want to let this opportunity pass by without encouraging all members to become active participants in our organization, to take advantage of the learning opportunities NITA is constantly providing, to meet and build a network of professional relations through our informal gatherings, to visit and become acquainted with our website and the events posted, to update your profile information in the NITA directory, and to promote our organization among colleagues and those interested in becoming professional interpreters and translators.
