Canadian Language Industry Association Launches Certification Program

AILIA (Association de l’industrie de la langue / Language Industry Association)The AILIA (Association de l’industrie de la langue / Language Industry Association) have launched a formal certification program for Interpreting Service Providers (ISPs) in Canada. The certification program is based on the National Standard Guide for Community Interpreting Services (NSGCIS).

AILIA invites all ISP to apply for the certification and demonstrate that your organization abides by the NSGCIS. AILIA members receive a substantial discount from the auditing firm, we encourage you to become members of the association, enjoy the many benefits of membership and at the same time help strengthen the language sector.

NCIHC Presents Members of Advisory Committee for National Standards for Healthcare Interpreter Training Programs

National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC)The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) today announces the members of their Advisory Committee for its National Standards for Training project, stepping forward in the development of national standards for training healthcare interpreters. The 10 national experts on the committee were selected for their expertise in the development of curricula in interpreter training and/or the education/training of interpreters. The group is charged with drafting standards for healthcare interpreter training programs, drawing upon background research commissioned by the NCIHC as well as input from focus groups conducted at conferences held around the country.

NCIHC 4th Annual Membership Meeting

Members of the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC) will gather on April 29 & 30th, 2010 in Washington DC for the 4th Annual NCIHC Membership Meeting. The NCIHC membership is composed of leaders from around the country who work as medical interpreters, interpreter service coordinators and trainers, clinicians, policymakers, advocates and researchers. Once a year members gather to promote and enhance language access in health care.

ATA/AATIA Science & Technology Seminar (San Antonio, TX)

The American Translators Association (ATA) and the Austin Area Translators and Interpreters Association (AATIA) present the Science & Technology Seminar, a Professional Development Event on March 27 and 28 of 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. It features several presentations on aspects of technical translation as well as a job market and ample networking opportunities for the attendees.

NITA president Karen Tkaczyk is also presenting at the Science and Technology Seminar. Karen is a highly specialized technical translator. Her presentations on aspect of the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries are well-received and in San Antonio she will give her new presentation “From Soap to Drugs and Back, via QA and SOPs”
