NV Court Interpreters Skill-Building Workshop, Written Exam Retake for 2010

by NITA Online on April 26, 2010

Full-Day Skill-Building Workshop

The Supreme Court of Nevada

The Supreme Court of Nevada

The Nevada Certified Court Interpreters Program, as part of the Nevada Supreme Court’s Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has announced a full-day Skill-Building Workshop, made available in both Las Vegas and in Reno, in June 2010.

The instructor will be Mr. Agustin de la Mora, Federally Certified Court Interpreter, one of the Supervisor Raters in the U.S. for the National Center for State Courts, speaker and presenter in several national conventions, including the NAJIT, ATA and NASCA.

The date and location for this workshop for the event in Reno is:

Saturday, June 5 (in Reno)
Reno-Tahoe International Airport
Administrative Offices
2nd Floor
2001 East Plumb Lane
Reno, NV 89502

And for the event in Las Vegas:

Sunday, June 6 (in Las Vegas)
Clark County Government Center
Training Room 3
500 S. Grand Central Pkwy.
Las Vegas, NV 89155

The purpose of the workshop is to assist those interested in undergoing a court interpreter credentialing process by providing some training in preparation for future written and oral examinations.

However: the Skill-Building Workshop is also a mandatory prerequisite for those who would like to retake the written examination in early July (see below.)

The workshop is designed for participants of all languages. Attendees should bring a tape/digital recorder for practical exercises!

IMPORTANT: the full-day Skill-Building Workshop is not a substitute for the (also) mandatory two-day Orientation Workshop, which the Nevada Certified Court Interpreter Program offers once a year in January. So, the Skill-Building Workshop is complementary, and therefor offered as a resource in addition to the (two-day) Orientation Workshop!

The deadline for registration for the Skill-Building Workshop is May 14.

For more information about the Skill-Building Workshop, and the registration form itself, please visit the page with the pertaining announcement of the Court Interpreter Program.

Written Exam Retake

The Nevada AOC Certified Court Interpreters Program has also announced the availability of a Written Exam Retake, offered both in Las Vegas on the same day at the same time: on Thursday, July 1st of 2010 at 4 p.m.

The location for Las Vegas is:

Regional Justice Center
Supreme Court Courtroom
17th floor
Las Vegas, NV 89101

And the location in Carson City is:

Supreme Court of Nevada
Law Library
Room 107
201 South Carson Street
Carson City, NV 89701

The written test measures candidates’ knowledge of areas central to the work of a court interpreter at the level of a minimally qualified interpreter:

  • English language;
  • Court-related terms and usage, and
  • Ethics and professional conduct.

The written examination retake will be available to those persons who either:

  1. Failed the written exam (did not achieve a score of 80%), or
  2. Did not pass the oral exam within 2 years of passing the written exam.
IMPORTANT: A mandatory prerequisite for the written exam retesting is prior attendance of the 2010 Skill-Building Workshop (see above) held in early June.

The deadline to submit your registration form for the Written Exam Retake is May 14, 2010.

Please consult the Court Interpreter Program announcement for more information, and the registration form itself.

Hi Maria, I’m not sure how you could not have received the results back from what I suppose was the written examination for the Nevada Certified Court Interpreter Program, but the best you can do is to get in touch with Ms. Andrea Krlickova, Program Manager for the state’s Court Interpreter Program (it is part of the Administrative Office of the Courts, of the Nevada Supreme Court). You can find her contact information on this webpage here. Through that webpage you can also explore the links for more information on the certification process. Good luck!
