Announcing NITA OnLine Mobile Edition
Since about a week, this website offers its content in a format that is more suitable to hand-held device browsers, such as the iPhone, Android and similar ‘smart phones’ as well as many PDAs such as current Blackberry or Palm models. Because things are holding up nicely, this new feature is now officially unveiled as the latest, greatest new NITA OnLine feature. Please note that this change is not in any way visible to the ‘regular’ visitor. If you’re using a traditional web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc.) from a desktop or laptop computer you’ll still be greeted by the trusted, familiar layout.
This new, simplified mode (with almost no images, to lighten the load) switches on only when visiting NITA OnLine with a hand-held device, when a simplified layout shows automatically and without any need to set or select a fitting display option. However, if you use such a small device and still prefer to navigate NITA OnLine using the ‘normal’ or full display mode, you can scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the link to toggle the display mode back.
Curious about how the lean, mean browsing machine looks, but you don’t have one of those cellphones handy? Then visit this very nice demo site by Opera, which sports their Opera Mini browser developed for such devices, and emulates it via Java technology for visitors using a ‘normal’ browser. Just type in www.nitaonline.org and give it a spin!
Hopefully, this will make checking news and announcements on this website a better mobile internet experience! (But please don’t navigate NITA OnLine while you’re driving, ‘mkay?)
Note: some content of NITA OnLine (e.g. the full calendar of events, or the Forum) is inherently difficult to adapt to the very small visible space of hand-held devices. The idea behind offering a ‘mobile edition’ is to make sure that the latest information published on this site is available to a larger audience, comprising many language professionals who typically are on the go during their work days.

Wow, that is so impressive, thanks so much for doing this! Perhaps we should send out a press release about this? I think it’s very noteworthy.
