Tennessee Association of Professional Interpreters and Translators (TAPIT)The Tennessee Association of Professional Interpreters and Translators (TAPIT) presents a day-long legal and medical consecutive interpretation workshop. This small-group, day-long workshop (jointly sponsored by TAPIT, TAMIT and the University of Memphis Masters of Public Health Program in Memphis, TN) will be extremely beneficial to experienced medical and legal interpreters of Spanish who seek to improve their consecutive skills and memory-retention techniques.

Well-known interpreter, translator, professor and author, Holly Mikkelson, will use her rich knowledge and experience to inform and guide the participants through various situations and methods associated with consecutive interpreting.

There will be an emphasis on the differences and similarities between the interpreting techniques used in the medical and legal settings. Participants will be given scenarios and scripts in Spanish and English that will feature both medical and legal topics, and specialized terminology will be reviewed as needed. Each person will be given many opportunities to practice specific content and skills and will receive feedback from the instructor. Participants will also be provided with a bibliography/webography of resources for future use.

This workshop has been approved by the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts for foreign language credits and general credits.

For more information and registration, please see the TAPIT webpage.
