Friday May 11, 2012 – Friday May 11, 2012
Joe Crowley Student Union (Floor 3) at UNR
Description:
Note taking skills are not just for long consecutive interpreting in conference and courtroom settings. The appropriate use of notes can greatly enhance an interpreter’s performance in dialogue interpreting in medical, legal and community environments as well. The trick is learning when and how to take notes to facilitate better communication. This workshop will cover the proper role and purpose of note taking in short dialogue interpreting and will provide concrete strategies for incorporating this skill into daily interpreting assignments, including:
- Exercises for improving memory and active listening skills;
- How to structure notes;
- Symbols and how to use them; and
- When and what to take notes on.
